Supporting Evidence

Section 1: Home Page

I would describe the homepage of my website to be very eye-catching, with images dominating the space of the page with text being on top of the image, guiding the viewers of the page to what part they want to go to very easily, without them getting lost. Anyone also viewing the page can easily find the social media links that would have been embedded into the images into the top right corner. The name of the artist “Frank Bayhill” can also be seen very clearly in the top left of the header which would be where people would look on the website after they’ve seen the center images. All of the images clearly show one person (in this page its me) and that person is assuming the role of Frank Bayhill.

With the website itself, the colour scheme is very monochrome with blacks, whites and greys dominating both the top and the bottom header. The vibrancy on this page relies on the images in the middle, all of which sprouting very bright colours which makes a nice contradiction between the website and the images. The images themselves split the page into five different parts, clicking each image would of taken the user to the corresponding part of the website (Home, Releases, Tour, Merch and About). Despite the brightness of the images, the house style of the text is still the main focus of each image with it being a bright white that contradicts everything in frame as well as it being in the middle of each image.

Draft 1

This was my initial sketch of the website; this was only done in a few minutes but had the basics of what I wanted on there. The initial plan for the home page was for there to be one image in the middle to be the main focus of the website and a bar at the top for the user to go onto the different links around the website and navigate it that way. This way was influenced a lot with my research on the websites from real musicians and was a very common way for them to make their website.

Draft 2

This was the photoshop draft that I had made after doing my initial sketch. Nearly all of the ideas were the same but the logo idea was removed since a lot of music artists don’t have a logo they, as well as a bottom header being added to add additional information about the artist without it taking focus away from the main image in the middle of the page. The social media links were also replaced with text in this draft instead of the logos being on the top header.

Draft 3

Draft 3 was a lot like draft 2, with very little being changed. The texts for the social media links were changed back to logos because they stand out more, attract more attention as well as being easier for users to find the one they’re looking for. This idea was carried forward until the final draft was made. The colours were also slightly changed as well as the text, but nothing major.

Draft 4

Draft 4 is where I decided that a montage style would work best for the website, due to it being a lot more eye catching, as well as interactive which would have promoted more people to come to the website. The images are all equally spaced out with the black background separating each of them, so there is no confusion in where each image ends and where another one starts. This is also where I decided to put the artist name in the top right since after the images, that would be the first place people would look.

 Finished Design

This is the finished design of the website, with everything about it being discussed at the start of the document. If this wasn’t a prototype and I was making the website then the bar at the bottom would have been a scrolling bar on the bottom header with different bits of information and text being displayed on it. The texts on each images would be hyperlinked to take the user to different parts of the page, as well as the social media logos and the label information presented at the bottom of the page. DaFont was also used to provide the font used (Zector https://www.dafont.com/zector.font?text=About&back=theme) , I felt this font didn’t stand out too much where it wasn’t needed and was very simplistic in design but could be easily placed over the images as well as the headers. The only colours used of them is black and white to make sure they don’t take up more attention than the images.

Section 2: Link Page

The link page I have decided to do was the “About” page, the initial idea was to include the audio clip that was needed, as well as some information about the artist and some extra images and videos as well. This idea was changed over time, and I eventually adopted the montage style which I used on my home page as well as the link page. The colour pallet of the link page was the same as the home page, adopting the top and bottom banner but with the top banner being used for navigation around the site.

Draft 1

There was no sketch created for the link page, so I started on photo shop with a design that allowed a lot of things to be on the screen with none of them invading with each other and the big text being the main focus of the page, the audio clip would also be included here surrounded by more images of different sizes. The style of the top and bottom border would have also been kept from the home page and that was one thing that was consistent between all drafts.

Draft 2

The second draft was an idea of me wanting to use up all the dead space of the link page, but I think this didn’t work because there was no space between each box so the images would of conflicted with one another due to them being close. In hindsight a blocker should have been added between each of them to stop this from happening, and that was a big change from this draft from the next. The social media logos were also added back in this draft and after.

Draft 3

This draft is where I reverted back to my old idea of having more dead space while having a more “relaxed” view of the page with images being different sized and not aligned which would of related back to the target audience of teen-young adults. As well as draft 2, a video was also an idea I wanted to work with to be added to this page, if this wasn’t a prototype I would of made the video myself, but it wouldn’t of been too long.

Finished Design

The finished design was a lot like the previous draft in a lot of ways but a few things were also changed. I decided to get rid of the video idea due to it being too distracting, and would take a lot of focus off the main bodies of text. The images added were contrasting but not too distracting, also fitting in the house style started on the home page. The audio clip is also present in the bottom right as well as two quotes from made up celebrities. “Zector” was also continued to be used from DaFont as well which once again fit into the house style.

Section 3: Audio Script

Interviewer: So, what inspired you to make your new hit single “Gimme Love”, Frank?

Frank Bayhill: I think it boils down to my love for not only my friends but the time that I spend with them and what I do with them, the best way to describe it would be a love story for the people in my life.

Interviewer: And what about the music video? It climbed to 10 million views in only a few days, how did that feel?

Frank Bayhill: It felt great to be honest, all of the footage that was shown in the video was things that me or my friends had recorded on some of the trips we went on, so to the outside it looked like a bunch of random clips spliced together. But to me and my friends it was a homage and a thank you to all the time we spent travelling and making the most of life.

The audio script would be on the linked page.

 Section 4: House Style

The house style of the website is to have fairly monochrome headers using colours such as greys, white and black while having contradicting vibrant images with dominant colours such as blue, pink, yellow and green to draw attention onto the information and then around the page. I think this style really suits the target demographic (15-24) and fits with the fast paced music video that has also been made along side this. The text remains consistent throughout both pages of the website, being simplistic and eye catching but doesn’t require much attention to read and process. As well as this, the text is either two black or white to help go with the vibrant images. The social media links are also very visible and eye catching which is good because a younger audience would look for a social media platform to find an artist, and would be drawn to that as well.

Section 5: Images I Would of Used

All images within the website are images of me that were in my camera roll, which is why there is no synergy between any of them. Under normal (non-COVID) scenarios I would have been able to take images according to what I wanted, instead of having to compensate with what I could find.

As discussed, vibrant images with a range of bright lighting would have been taken to fit with the house style of the images. I would of liked to get a few pictures with some props like a blank vinyl disc or a microphone to help fit with the website theme. A range of different camera angles like low or high angles as well as some medium close ups and close ups to help make the photos of the artist the main focus while allowing for some background and/or costumes or props to populate the picture as well.

All of the images would of have to connected to my research into the chosen age demographic and would have to relate to them in some sense, as well as to draw their attention.
